Being great at interviewing doesn't happen overnight. It is a process of practicing and getting better, of adjusting and feeling more comfortable in the environment. There are many different types of interviews, but the key to all is preparation.
In order to facilitate students and alumni in interview practice, UCS offers mock interviewing. During a mock interview, a UCS staff member will interview you, as if you are in an actual job, internship or graduate school interview. The interview is videotaped and after the questions, the staff member will review the tape with you, pointing out highlights and areas for improvement. To schedule a mock interview, contact UCS at 817-257-7860.
There are several important tips to a successful interview:
- Have an interest in the position. Don't interview just to practice. Practice is available elsewhere.
- Research the company or organization prior to interviewing.
- Spend time before the interview thinking of your previous experiences that can be related to the position.
- Be confident. It speaks volumes.
- Always write a thank you note within 48 hours of the interview.
